There is a sense of trust and camaraderie that comes with hiring a trainee that is different from your other employees. Traineeships are formal on-the-job training arrangements between employer and an employee that can lead to a nationally recognised qualification and thanks to government funding, there has never been a better time to hire a trainee. Never considered a trainee? Find out below why you should.
1. They're keen, motivated & eager
Whether they're new to the workforce or changing careers, trainees are typically keen, motivated and eager to learn lifelong skills. Contrary to what you might think, trainees don't have to be fresh out of school. In fact, there are a couple of other groups who can be hired as a trainee.
These include:
- People re-entering the work force
- Adults who have decided to change their career
- School-leavers
Hiring a new trainee will be like a breath of fresh air for the company and by the time they're qualified you have a skilled specialist worker who knows your business and customers.
2. They help you build a learning culture
Trainees help you build a learning culture which will benefit your whole organisation, not just the trainee. Why is a learning culture important? Continuous learning is necessary for survival in the business world. We are constantly absorbing information, determining what’s important, and deciding how to act. Research shows that creating a learning culture and employing a trainee will help you increase efficiency, productivity and employee satisfaction and this should start from the ground up. Instilling in your trainees the learning culture from day one will leave you with a custom built worker who is eager to contribute and grow with your organisation.
3. They tend to be more loyal & long term employees
There is a special place in most employees hearts for the employer who gave them their head start. Whether they are re-entering the workforce, just out of school or changing their profession, training a trainee from the ground up, creates a unique loyalty and camaraderie that can be difficult to find with other new employees. They tend to have a great understanding of your companies long term goals and all of the mechanics are required to make your business successful, this means they are more likely to stay and contribute to the company that trained them once they are fully qualified. When you give a trainee an opportunity with a traineeship, not only can you instil your culture and values in them from the start but your trainee will likely return the favour in loyalty.
4. Government funding
To assist with the recover from the impact of COVID-19, the Australian Government is providing support to all employees who engage a new Australian Trainee. The new funding allows you to get up to $28,000 in wage subsidies for your trainees. This funding is an amazing opportunity and means it has never been a better time to take the plunge and hire that trainee you have been thinking about. Read more about the details HERE.
