& How To Make Sure You’re On The Right Path

Great leaders possess many qualities that give them the ability to grow their business no matter what challenges may arise. They are also constantly forward thinking and innovating. Organisations run by leaders with traditional management mindsets run the risk of falling behind their forward thinking competitors. 

The key to success? Finding a welcome balance. 

If COVID19 has taught us something, it is that life is unpredictable and no matter how prepared you are, in a moment, everything we know about life and business can change. In these moments, it is important to stop, breathe and reset.

Let’s explore some ways you can be a forward thinking leader and guide your team in both moments of challenge but also when everything is going great.

Don't get too comfortable 

Change is inevitable which is ironic because most people dislike change immensely. Forward thinking leaders are constantly thinking of the future. Don’t get me wrong, this is not to say there is no value in focusing on the here and now, because of course there is, but in order to grow as a business, you must always also be looking ahead. Losing vocabulary like “this has worked for us in the past so it is how we will continue in the future”, will open your mind to a new pool of opportunities.

Think about it… what if Apple never updated the iPhone?

  • When the iPhone was released it was a 2 megapixel camera, it is now a 12 megapixel camera, allowing you to take professional grade photos at the click of a button to the point where some of the worlds most successful singers are now shooting their music videos on the iPhone. 
  • The iPhone used to be tiny, it is now large, allowing us to have a much better user experience, stream movies or tv shows, doing light reading, playing games, big screens allows for an easy and detailed viewing experience. 
  • The iPhone wasn’t waterproof, it now is. Waterproofing means you can snap memories in the pool or use your phone in the rain without the fear of it being damaged. 
  • The iPhone wasn't shockproof, it now is. Allowing customers to avoid a large bill in a screen replacement or new phone for the mistake of dropping a phone (which is so easily done!). 

Need I go on? By evolving with your customers demands, it will allow you to grow into the future.

The Future Is Unpredictable, You Need To Be Able To Adapt 

Embrace change and use it to your advantage. Change brings many new opportunities. Gone are the days where we can rely on news paper ads, billboards and radio call outs to reach our potential new customers. Leaders need to adapt, come up with more structured thinking around 21st century digitised marketing, social media, the virtual environment and come to terms with the platform economy and learn how to leverage these platforms to get to people. 

For example, with 3.5 billion social media users worldwide, social media marketing is now one of the most effective ways to reach potential clients. Embracing the new era of marketing and moving forward with the times, is going to enable you to lead your teams into the future. 

Build A Strong Team & Trust Them 

There is a reason you have heard the term “great leaders delegate”. Forward thinking leaders don’t see their employees as another number. They hire, build and surround themselves with smart minds who they trust to help them build, change and grow the business. In order to do this, you need to learn to release control and remember, your employees are your most valuable asset. And a way to retain your most valuable asset? Keep them happy. There is a reason there are roles like “Chief Happiness Officer” in Fortune 500 companies. It is because they know the value of having happy employees who will try and move mountains for the company they work for. Invest in training your assets and train them to embrace change. Develop thinkers who will try and move mountains for you!

If COVID19 has taught us something, there is no possible way to predict for the future, nor can you control it. Forward Thinking leaders are prepared for whatever comes their way which over the years, will enable them to grow and evolve.
