Staying motivated can be hard at the best of times let alone when things are tough (aka a Pandemic brings the world to a halt) but it is important to push and keep those wheels turning as we will, one day, make it to the other side of this thing!
After-all, we all are going to struggle through difficult times at different moments in our lives. It is how you deal with those moments, that will define your success.
Below are 5 steps to help you keep motivated, during tough times!
1. A positive mind is a healthy mind.
What you put out there is what you attract. If you have a negative mindset, that energy will be picked up and reciprocated. Staying positive when things are tough can be hard, however having a positive and mindset will help you concentrate and hit your goals - even if they don't come in the form you expected! I know it is impossible to stay positive 100% of the time, but try and focus most of your energy into being positive. Fill your mind with uplifting and inspiring information, it will keep you motivated. This can be in the form of podcasts, books, movies, spending time with friends and family to lift you up, keep a gratitude journal and remind yourself that you are capable of achievement.
2. Celebrate each victory - big & small!
Always take time to celebrate your victories! After all, rewards play a big part in staying motivated. Set your goals and when you have a victory, celebrate! This could be treating yourself to a fancy dinner, enjoying a glass of Barossa Shiraz or Moet Champagne, treating yourself to a movie night or even a weekend away. It will help you stay motivated in achieving your goals. This goes for smaller goals as well. For example "My goal is to network every single day for 2 weeks and if I achieve it, I will treat myself to the most indulgent bock of chocolate I will find". Treat yourself - you deserve it!
3. Take control over what you can, stop worrying about what you can't.
As much as we all wish we could control everything that happens in our lives, unfortunately, we can't. So in tougher times, it is important to take control over what you can and try not to worry about the things that you can't. Below are a few things you can take control over:
- If you're quieter then usual, perhaps upskill or reskill. Doing a course or learning new skills will set you apart from your competition. When things are quieter, it is easy to dwell. Try channel that energy into continuing your education so that when work does start to pick up, you will have a leg up!
- Never. Stop. Networking!
- Get creative with your marketing. Try something new you haven't done before, up your social media game, create a video! Do what you can to get noticed by the right people!
- Chat with other Brokers, see how they're doing and what they are seeing in the market.
- Write down a list of goals and how you plan on achieving them.
Some things are out of our control, learn to try and control the things you can.
4. Network, network, network.
As a commercial broker finding new opportunities and turning leads into clients it will require networking. It is something you will always need to do. Connecting with people is easier now more than ever thanks to social media and this is just the beginning. You’ll then need to develop a deeper relationship with your connections. Check in with people regularly, even if it isn’t even work related. Share experiences, see how their family is doing, how business is doing etc. In a time where we are dealing with COVID19, the whole world is in the same boat so making sure you are there and checking in on your clients and prospective clients during the tough times won’t be forgotten. The goal is to stay top of mind so that when a deal presents itself, you are at front of line!
5. Practice self care... and thats an order!
Self care is important always, but it is ESPECIALLY important when you’re going through tough times. In order for you to be your best self at work and for your clients, you need to feel your best self. Whatever self care looks like for you, do it. It’ll help you stay connected to yourself and make you feel good. Read a book, go for a walk, have a facial, watch the footy… whatever it is, dive into whatever makes you de-stress and feel good. And then… go close those deals!
Remember, it is only human to feel demotivated when times are stressful and unknown but just know, this too shall pass and… YOU'VE GOT THIS!
