Studying at home can be the perfect sanctuary for learning if you follow some basic guidelines to ensure you are set up for success.
1. Make sure you are well rested and well fed
Nothing is better than a good night’s sleep. It ensures your brain is refreshed, alert and motivated.
Keep healthy snacks and drinks close by so you wont be tempted to grab the easy option of junk food if you get stressed. The bigger the bottle of water on your desk, the better!!!
2. Have your own space for study
Whether it be the kitchen table or a designated study, make sure your space is clear and organised. Based on my experience, your BED is not the ideal space for study (although it does help tick point 1 off the list).
3. Designate time for study
Using a calendar and alarms may help. Don’t forget to share your study plans with those who need to know. It serves no purpose ‘thinking’ that you partner can look after the kids whilst you study if they don’t know this was your intention.
It could also mean blocking time out of your work calendar so colleagues don’t book meetings or throw projects upon you when they can see you are studying. Communication and support is the key here.
